キングと出会った最初の本です。これを皮切りにハードカバー約 ２０冊ほどと文庫本を約５０冊ほど手掛ける事になりました。 「ペット・セマタリー」は同タイトルの映画の封切りに会わせて出 版されものですが、あまりのバッドタイミング！現実にこの小説と 似た衝撃的な事件が起こり、連日マスコミを賑わせ、映画は途中で 打ち切りという事態に至ってしまったのです。そう、思い出された 方もいるかもしれませんが、あの宮崎務事件です。 今聞いたら驚かれるかもしれませんが、当時ホラー小説というと このような事件を連想させる不道徳な小説という先入感が根強く、 電車の中などで堂々と読むのは、躊躇してしまうような雰囲気があ ったのです。

This was my first encounter with Stephen King. Starting from this, I have worked 20 hard covers and 50 pocket books.
“Pet Cemetery” was published at same timing as the movie, which was really worst timing! Shocking event, similar to this book occurred and it was covered in media everyday. The movie was finished halfway through. Yes, some of you might recall the event. It was the Miyazaki Tsutomu affair.
You might be surprised to hear, but at that time, many people had a bias against Horror Novels. These novels were seen as vicious and connected with such affairs. So, there was hesitation such as reading in the train openly.
